Scavengers definition biology9/15/2023 ![]() ![]() In a nutshell, it's something an organism needs for survival. Not two different organisms can share the same niche or competition will arise. ![]() Each one of those animals listed –people, deer, buzzard – have their own niche in the world that I live in.Ī niche is specific thing that a specific organism needs for survival. Lots of woods, water, and food!īecause we have plenty of deer, we also have plenty of deer hunters who use the animals for meat.īeyond that, we also have buzzards that are there to help clean up the mess. They are everywhere! This has a lot to do with the fact that my area provides them a great ecosystem to live in. Haven’t you ever heard about a person ‘finding a niche in life?’ Well, this has much the same meaning, just in a different context.įor instance, in my area of the world we have a lot of deer. In their own little ecosystem they have a very specialized job which without them would not be fulfilled. ![]() I think a simple way to put what a niche is this it is a specific place that one particular organism or species takes up in their world. That is part of the reason that many of us feel that we should conserve wildlife habitats as much as possible – that way animals who no longer have homes in their own niches are not moving in on other’s niches, creating big problems. I guess what I mean to say is that while it is possible for two different species to fill the same niche temporarily, it is not advantageous to either species. It is not true that there can only be one specific animal in one specific niche – however, having more than one often creates competition which can lead to major ecosystem problems Niches are a very important part of any ecosystem. ![]()
